RE2 Beta 2
From

This section covers the Beta 2.0 version of Resident Evil 2. There are various copies of Beta 2.0 floating around on the internet and passed through collectors hands. It is the easiest Beta to come across, and also the most devious. There are many types of Beta 2.0 aswell; 2.0, 2.1, 2.2 etc. The differences are very minor, but present. This Beta is also mistaken for 1.5 an awful lot. Below I have listed a few differences to the final, having had the chance to play this common Beta.

The Streets

The streets in Beta 2.0 are very different. Notibly the clean view of them! Not one spec of trash in sight! Except for in the trashcans, obviously. And various wrecks of vehicles and shops. But besides that, spotless. My guess is Capcom didn't feel Raccoon City looked like it had been taken over by the undead much, and so added in a few bits of trash and extras.

The Graphics

The graphics seemed to be quite a problem in Beta 2.0. Although they were good in comparison to the final Resident Evil 2, there were some major glitches. Take this for example; The room just before the Licker, the lid to the chest in the main R.P.D hall is floating in mid air near the door! Zombies and items could be seen through things such as walls, stairs and railings. Even some machines were see-through. There were items on the main streets that were unfinished, such as grey and white cel-shaded cars with no wheels or doors, the bus was unfinished and smooth looking, and the door in the lab wasn't frozen up (East Side room to obtain the Main Fuse). Some things were missing too, like Ada's medallion (I've seen a pic, but even in my Resident Evil 2 for PC, Annette blasts Ada about it, but still there is no medallion around her neck). Also there was a mysterious hole in the wall where you would get the Shotgun Parts, with blood around it. Pretty freaky.

The Items

Some items that were in Beta 2.0 were removed from the final production of Resident Evil 2. I will give brief descriptions here. There was some sort of a Hunk style MP5 machine gun in the game, but from what I've been told it crashes the game when you try to equip it. Also in the mix were other weapons such as a Calico style handgun, much like the pair Claire uses in Code Veronica (twin handguns) except there was only one of them. And the Resident Evil 1 style M66 rocket launcher with an updated look, with what appeared to be white/silver trimmings around the edges. Flamethrower fuel and Spark Shot ammo was available in Beta 2.0 as free as it comes, but was removed from the final Resident Evil 2. Pots of blue, green, and red gel type liquid was available in Beta 2.0, apparently it allowed you to transform grenade rounds into a different type, pretty handy if you need or prefer a certain type of ammo but have a type of the other. Also with Beta 2.0 came three strange plugs, a black one, a yellow one, and an orange one that came in two parts. There was also a lilac first aid spray that cured poison, I wish they'd of left this in, I've been in numerous tight spots where I've been poisoned and had no blue herbs. And last but not least, a strange wrist watch.

The Debug Menu

Beta 2.0 allowed you to start with a debug menu. It allowed you to place items where you pleased and such. I don't know much about it. Recent news has informed me you can also choose where you want to start and with what weapons/items.
