Shadowgate
Using the same graphical interface as Deja Vu, Shadowgate is an adventure game set in a fantasy world. Players take the part of an adventurer sent to the ancient keep of Shadowgate on a quest to find a mystic artifact known as the Staff of Ages and stop the evil Warlock Lord from summoning a horrific demon known as the Behemoth. However Shadowgate has become infested with the Warlock Lord's demonic minions, not to mention the castle's still functional booby-traps.
Unlike Deja Vu, death comes at you suddenly, unexpectedly, and most of all OFTEN. Such simple acts as pulling the wrong switch or opening the wrong door can cause you to be skewered by a booby-trap or disemboweled by a monster. It's allso worth mentioning the fact that if your torch burns out (this happens quite regularly) and you forget to light a new one, you'll trip in the dark and break your neck.
A Windows 3.x update to this game was created in 1991.
"The last thing that you remember is standing before the wizard Lakmir as he waved his hands. Now you find yourself staring at an entryway which lies at the edge of a forest. The druid's words ring in your ears: "Within the castle Shadowgate lies your quest. The dreaded Warlock Lord will use his black magic to raise the behemoth from the dark depths. The combination of his evil arts and the great titan's power will surely destroy us all! You are the last of the line of kings, the seed of prophecy that was foretold eons ago. Only you can stop the evil one from darkening our world forever! Fare thee well." Gritting your teeth, you swear by your god's name that you will destroy the Warlock Lord!"

Shadowgate Redux
"Although the original Shadowgate wasn't an RPG, it found a considerable following when it first appeared in all its 8-bit glory on the NES in 1989.
Shadowgate plunges you into a fantasy world both dangerous and interesting, full of devious traps and sinister monsters as you try to prevent the evil Warlock Lord from summoning the Behemoth.
I've liked this game since I was a kid (I watched my older brothers playing it, and ran from the room every time a low-rez skeleton appeared on screen.) But it hadn't occurred to me until recently that a remake of the game would be possible in RPG2K. This version however, is *slightly* different from other Shadowgate remakes."
