Lucasfilm Games, better known now as LucasArts, develops around one adventure or quest game per year in its early days of glory, and is well known for their superb graphics and gameplay in their games. Among these titles is Maniac Mansion--a classic quest or adventure game in the days when the PC XT ruled the world. It even subsequently inspired a television series by the same name.
Story
Twenty years ago a strange meteor crashed nearby Dr. Fred’s mansion. Ever since, Dr. Fred has been building strange devices and making bizarre experiments. Unfortunately, his latest evil experiment includes Dave’s girlfriend Sandy, and it is now it’s up to Dave and two of his buddies to go save her from the mad scientist!
Sounds simple? Not quite. You control Dave and any two of his six buddies during the rescue. Each of Dave's friends possesses his or her own unique talent: Bernard (the only member to return in the sequel Maniac Mansion: Day Of The Tentacle) is the nerd in the gang who can fix almost anything (though he scares off easily); Syd and Razor both have great musical talents; Michael is the film buff; Wendy is the novelist to be; and Jeff the surfer… well... Jeff can fix the phone and call Edna…. Then there are the strange inhabitants of this insane house. They don’t just wait and sit in their rooms doing nothing, they roam around the house, get hungry and do things any madly insane inhabitants will do for a living. So stay alert! In the mansion you will encounter the evil Dr. Fred who has been brainwashed by the meteor, Nurse Edna who really needs a man in her life, and weird Ed who is trying desperately to stop the Evil meteor too but without much success. In between, you will meet the Green and Purple Tentacles, by either making friends with them or getting killed or captured by them.
NES Jap Rom differences
You HAVE to love any game that has a chainsaw and knife set on a bloody wall and an exploded hampster in the microwave.
